In case you were out living a life of leisure, here’s what you missed in sports on Thursday.

• Tim Tebow capped a game-winning drive with a 20-yard touchdown run to give the Broncos a 17-13 win over the Jets. It would be easy to overstate the significance of this event, but I do think it’s fair to say that, objectively speaking, I will spend the next few months looking for the face of Tebow in my frosted flakes.

• Logan Thomas threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns as Virginia Tech held off a late UNC rally to win 24-21. Fans rioted on the Blacksburg streets after the victory, overturning several mules.

• The BCS is considering a number of format changes, one of which would have the organization control just one game — the national championship. “It’d be just like a playoff,” said a BCS representative. “Except it’s just one round, with many games, and only one of them counts.”

• Dale Sveum has been named the new manager of the Chicago Cubs. That last name is pronounced “career ender.”

• The Houston Astros will move to the American League West in 2013, and MLB is adding an extra wild card in each league. Based on the Astros’ recent success, these two stories are completely unrelated.

• The Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw is the National League Cy Young Award winner. A thrilled Jamie McCourt told reporters that she had the perfect spot for it on her mantel.

• Although Tiger Woods is 0-2, the United States has taken a 7-5 lead in the President’s Cup. The match play tournament, which takes place every two years, is well known around the sports world for not being the Ryder Cup.

• Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel has been suspended one game for his recent DWI arrest. In future games, his headset will have a special breathalyzer to determine if he’s capable of calling plays.

• Six ranked teams prevailed in college basketball yesterday, and no. 18 Texas A&M was upset by Mississippi State, who used 20 points from standout guard Dee Bost to win 69-60. A&M actually held a 40-point lead in this game, but lost it in mere minutes when Mike Sherman took over as a guest coach in the second half.
