‘Lucy’ Trailer: Scarlett Johansson and Luc Besson Made Something Brutal for You
Ever just sit around and wonder what would happen if Black Widow of the Marvel movies actually got something to do, and if she also possessed the all-knowingness of Samantha from Her? (Weird that they both happen to be played by Scarlett Johansson, I know.) Luc Besson’s Lucy looks like that and then some.
After an alternate-universe Lost in Translation hotel opener, ScarJo’s Lucy learns she’s had a mystery package implanted into her “lower tummy.” (Super creepy, guy.) After a few Inception BRAAAAAAHHHHMs and a rapid eyeball freakout, it’s pretty clear the package is a Make You Into a Total Murder Beast–er. That’s not all, though: Lucy starts accessing way more of her brain than any of the rest of us do, and tapping into a potpourri of useful superpowers (insta-hair-color transform! the Force!), which Morgan Freeman reprises his career-long Helpful Explainer role to helpfully explain. It’s written and directed by the man who gave us The Fifth Element and The Professional, so we don’t have to be overly afraid it’ll suck. (Just don’t mention 2013’s The Family, please — or I’ll have to stick my fingers in my ears and hum loudly.)
