Skyfall Trailer: James Bond Returns, With Sexy Shaving
There have been precious few reasons to expect much from Skyfall, the upcoming, 23rd James Bond movie. And those few reasons are: Daniel Craig is back, he’s teamed up with director Sam Mendes, and Javier Bardem is onboard playing a blond villain. Everything else, though, has pretty much been a train wreck. The biggest harbinger of doom was the fact that the movie had to halt production altogether when its studio, MGM, went bankrupt, but there’s other causes for concern, like the $45 million in cash money that Heineken is kicking into production to force Bond into fandom of imported Dutch brews.
And then there’s the shadow cast by the last Bond flick, Quantum of Solace, which even Craig admitted was botched: “In Quantum, we were fucked. We had the bare bones of a script and then there was the strike and there was nothing we could do. We couldn’t employ a writer to finish it.” Not exactly a sign of confidence for the people still in charge of operations. And, yet, fast forward to today, and the release of Skyfall‘s teaser trailer, and … just try and tell me you’re not immediately onboard with everything that’s happening here. We get hints of deep betrayal and regret and angst stemming from the operation known as Skyfall, and we get gunshots and fire and very deliberate walking, and we get Bond’s face being sexily shaved by a lady, which is something I did not even know was possible. And we get just some classically pandering badass dialogue, which is exactly what I look for in a trailer for a movie featuring a character who is still one of our greatest fictional badass heroes: “Some men are coming to kill us.” [Pause, slightest hint of devilish grin.] “We’re going to kill them first.” Yep. Perfect. Let’s do this.
