New ‘Interstellar’ Trailer: Yep, It’ll Be Astronaut Wooderson Saving Us All

Warner Bros.

That new Interstellar trailer that premiered at Comic-Con? It’s now on the Internet. (The clip below is from the fine folks at Cinemablend; if you wanna see it in its natural habitat, go here. Yeah, that one’s a freebie, kid. Don’t sweat it.) And, increasingly, it appears, the shroud of secrecy around Christopher Nolan’s new epic has been lifted, folded up neatly, and shoved below the sink along with the rest of the now-useless secrecy shrouds. Yes, the Earth is dying. Yes, Matthew McConaughey has to go into space with his pal Anne Hathaway to save us all, probably by finding new worlds via wormhole. Yes, there’ll be time-lapsing going on. And yes, Murph, McConaughey’s adorable little girl, grows up to be Jessica Chastain. (Lot to look forward to, Murph!)

At some point, not that long ago, budding Interstellar-ologists had to work to suss this stuff out, but now all matter of character identities is readily available on the IMDb page. So will there be ever bigger twists and turns to come? Or is Nolan comfortable playing this world-saving space opera — gravelly McConaughey: “We’ll find a way. We always have.” [Chills.] — right down the middle? Either way, this trailer is so good, it’ll probably make people care about poetry again.
