‘Ultraviolence’ Is Lana Del Rey’s First Chart-Topper

Interscope

Lana Del Rey has won the Billboard 200, selling 182,000 copies of Ultraviolence. That’s the best sales week for a female artist since 310,000 Beyoncés were bought in the last week of December 2013. Despite the love-buzz/hate-buzz that swarmed LDR when she first blew up, 2012’s Born to Die debuted at no. 2 with 77,000 copies. Additionally interesting, and apparently unusual: “Ultraviolence captures the no. 1 slot even though Del Rey hasn’t performed on American TV in more than two years.”

Jay Z and Beyoncé’s On the Run tour kicked off last night in Miami. The Wiki has the setlist (and is surprisingly detailed), and the Internet is riddled with write-ups.

“We have more deaths, and we have more betrayals. We have more marriages.” –George R.R. Martin on The Winds of Winter. He says a lot more at EW — but it is spoilery, especially if you’re not caught up on the books.

“I’ve never even asked George who Jon [Snow]’s mother is. But I’ve tried to trick David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] into telling me.” –Kit Harington, amateur Westerosian genealogist. In other news, this piece of Haringtonabilia will astonish you.

This is a terrific conversation between Sarah Silverman and Whitney Cummings about being comedians and being comedians in movies.

The Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan Chemistry Industrial Complex may again be open for business with Ithaca. Ryan is set to direct; Hanks would cameo. It’s set in WWII, where Tom Hanks pretty much lives.

The wonderful Andy Serkis creates a dialogue between Caesar and Gollum. (Also, he’d like to play the Hunchback of Notre Dame someday.)

You sort of forget … you don’t see him on Degrassi anymore, you know what I mean? He’s rapping all the time. So you forget that it’s a skill that he has and that he’s really good at.” –Vanessa Bayer on making that comedy clip with Drake

Sam Raimi is doing an Afghanistan war movie.

The Fault in Our Stars author John Green has another book, Looking for Alaska, on the way to movie-town.

Ben Kingsley will voice Bagheera the panther in Jon Favreau’s Jungle Book.

Lol: Eminem was going to play a gig at London’s Hyde Park, but the Royal Parks people nixed the idea when they found out who Eminem was, basically.

And an Avicii show in Boston landed dozens of people in the hospital. And it wasn’t from collapsed scaffolding or a bass drop shockwave; you know what was going on. Those kids and their things.
