Klingbeil conversion stories are not rare. Nor is it a peculiarity to see the best skaters in the world wearing their signature four-hook boot. At Innsbruck in 1976, as America’s sweetheart Dorothy Hamill spun to a blur, winning the Olympic championship, she wore Klingbeils. To many in the skating world, it was inconceivable that the legendary Klingbeil could be going out of business when the shop announced its closure in late 2011. So what happened?
