CSI: Crime Scene Investigation will get its third spinoff in 15 years in early 2015. The title is CSI: Cyber and it’ll star Patricia Arquette as head of the FBI’s Cyber Crime Division, “a unit at the forefront of solving illegal activities that start in the mind, live online and play out in the real world.” (Looks like your circuits … are fried, 4chan.) James Van Der Beek has now been tapped to join Ms. Arquette as an “ACTION JUNKIE” named “ELIJAH MUNDO.” Awesome. Take it away, THR:
Agent Elijah Mundo [is] an expert in battlefield forensics recruited by special agent Avery Ryan [Arquette] for his war efforts in Afghanistan. Mundo is a savant when it comes to weaponry, vehicles and bombs. A self-proclaimed action junkie, Mundo will often put himself at risk to seek permanent justice, while Ryan will level his die-hard behavior with her expertise in psychology. Together, they will team up to fight the world’s toughest cyber crimes, both foreign and domestic.
James Van Der Beek, war veteran, weapons/bombs/vehicles expert. Again: awesome.
While Arquette earned her TV credentials with seven seasons of Medium and one arc on Boardwalk Empire, Van Der Beek has been a TV guy since Dawson’s Creek started its six-season reign in 1998. Since then, The Beek has appeared on How I Met Your Mother, One Tree Hill, the short-lived NBC medical drama Mercy, the slightly longer-lasting but still short-lived ABC comedy Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23, and the sitcom Friends With Better Lives, which CBS canceled earlier this year after just five episodes. Not only has Van Der Beek cycled through the three major networks, he’s also done the police procedural circuit, with spots on Criminal Minds, Law & Order: SVU, and The Forgotten. He even appeared on Arquette’s Medium once. The more you know (about James Van Der Beek)!
