Chevy Chase Has a Voice Mail Problem

The Chevy Chase vs. Dan Harmon feud heats up.

Last weekend, when Community showrunner Dan Harmon accidentally leaked an embittered rant of a voice mail Chevy Chase left him, it brought up some tough questions. Like: How contentious is the seemingly happy-go-lucky Community set? What chain of events led to such intense animosity? And how would the rift affect the always-tenuous future of the geek-beloved show? But now a second embittered, ranting Chevy Chase voice mail has surfaced (this one from March 2011), and it brings up only one question: Why is Chevy Chase constantly leaving insane voice mails?

Chevy, upset that his screen time is minimized and that the bits he does get make him look like an “asshole,” decides to get some things off his chest: Community is “just a fucking mediocre sitcom” and nobody “gives a shit about the fucking story” so you should just write more jokes for Chevy and also, “It ain’t funny to me because I’m 67 years old and I’ve been doing this a long time.” But really, just listen to this thing; it’s a masterpiece of thinly veiled lunacy.

How can Chevy possibly think mean voice mailing is a good idea? He is 100 percent clear that he’s being recorded forever, right? Also, and maybe I just don’t know what I’m talking about because it’s certainly been a while since I left anyone an embittered rant of a voice mail, but don’t you get cut off at some point? I am roughly one more crazy Chevy message away from hiring Lester Freamon to look into this man’s phone habits.
