Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones is Paramount’s bid to expand its low-cost/high-yield franchise while appealing specifically to the Latino market, and maybe, from the looks of this first trailer, refreshing some of the series’ original verve in the process. It’s the sophomore directing effort for Christopher Landon, who wrote the last three Paranormals as well as this one. Paranormal Activity 5 was pushed to October 2014, making this autumn the first without the franchise in our theatergoing lives. Hope everyone’s staying strong.
- There are lots of funny ways to explain this situation, but Gawker said it best: Kim and Kanye more or less sexted each other in front of the whole Internet last night.
- Prince is having a pajama party, AT HIS HOUSE, FOR ONLY $50!!! Most coveted ticket in human history.
- Hyper-recognizable character actor (oxymoron?) Ed Lauter died at 74. I liked him as the police captain in True Romance.
- Alfonso Cuarón’s son/Gravity cowriter Jonás Cuarón is writing an Atlantis movie now. (Oh, and a writer asked Alfonso what it was like filming in space. All right.)
- Here’s something interesting, emphasis added as a special favor for all my buddies out there in End of Day Eyeball-Pain Land: “According to Nielsen SoundScan, of the eight million unique digital tracks sold in the US in 2011, some 32 percent sold only a single copy. Meanwhile, a massive 95 percent of all tracks downloaded sold fewer than 100 units.” There’s good news, too (million-selling digital songs are [very slowly] on the rise), but seriously — more than 2 million songs are just sitting around online and have sold just one copy. Creeps me out.
- Speaking of millions: 10.3 of ’em tuned in for Toy Story of Terror. When should I pencil in Toy Story 4 on my planner?
- Speaking of terror! Psy + Steven Tyler recorded a song together.
- You say “YOLO,” M.I.A. says “Y.A.L.A.,” let’s call the whole thing off.
- You’ll get a chance to see Michael Fassbender and Marion Cottilard’s Macbeth, ’cause the Weinstein Company picked up distribution rights.
- Future and Drake made up, Future will stay on Drake’s tour, and here’s another hour-long video of Drake just Drake-talking.
- NBC wants an animated comedy written and voiced by Ed Helms.
- Whether another Pacific Rim will happen or not, Guillermo del Toro is writing it, at least.
- And Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried are going to play father and daughter in
Gladiator 2: Gladiator Jr.–Gladiatoresssomething called Fathers and Daughters.
