This is the first in what we hope will be several installments of The Brink, a Grantland Channel original video series chronicling the lives of rising artists and athletes as they experience the most pivotal moments of their careers.
Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin has been a friend of mine for a few years through Trinity Boxing Club, where members are lucky enough to train under him when he’s not preparing for a fight of his own. Pete’s rise through the ranks has been remarkable, not only because he’s overcome dire poverty to reach the heights of his sport, but because he’s done so while remaining one of the most affable and positive people I’ve ever met, both in and out of sports. I’m proud to bring Grantland a little bit of his backstory and a behind-the-scenes look at the first title fight of his career.
